Many of you may remember, a while back, when there was a rash of TV shows featuring the world’s worst police chases. Before then, we’d become used to police chases on the big screen, with pyrotechnics galore, showing us that chasing down a criminal generally puts you in a life-or-death situation. However, some movie police chases asked us to suspend our disbelief, as both sides pulled off complex racing moves and stunts, sometimes in very crowded areas. When the cop reality shows hit TV, we saw that most police chases were in fact fairly straightforward, even if they did affect the lives of those around them by inflicting collateral damage. Still, every so often we are given a treat, and we get to see real-life chases that are truly outrageous and movie-like in their own way.

Luckiest Driver Ever

This guy apparently thought it would be a good idea to outrun the police in an SUV. Most likely fearful for his precious gas mileage, he decides to try to shake the cops quickly by pulling off some maneuvers that are really out of this world. He manages to recover from a spinout, thread through traffic on the wrong side of the road, and even go off-road once or twice to evade capture. By the end, his wheels are smoking, he has lost a bumper, and I’m sure that running away with his pants down was, at least partially, warranted in his mind. If it weren’t for that tree, this guy might still be on the road. Thank you, mother nature!

The Speed Limo

I don’t particularly know why a limo got involved in a high-speed chase. Not only are they cumbersome to drive but, I mean, I don’t know who steals a car you can’t have fun driving. There must have been a prom couple in serious trouble in the backseat. Heedless of the limo’s sketchy handling, this guy manages to try to outrun the police even in reverse once he blows his transmission. Now that is one thing we haven’t seen in the movies — limo stunt driving. Get on it, Hollywood!

The Street Racer

Now this guy, this guy was pulling off some serious racing moves. When forced to spin out, he actually spun a full 360 degrees to keep on driving. When pushed in the opposite direction, he attempted to outrun the police in reverse! He too managed to do a full turn off-road simply to delay his inevitable capture, which brings up an interesting point. Police tend to capture these criminals by simply having a lot of cars on their tail. So why don’t we ever see police pulling off stunts like this? If we did, perhaps we could stop chases at a one-to-one car ratio. That’s a solution; send all policemen to stunt school. It would definitely make our chases more interesting. I want to see some jumps and fireballs!
