A while back it was suggested that Avatar 2 might not take place on Pandora at all, but rather some other celestial body that the human race would turn to to mine for unobtainium. Well, the idea was kicked around a bit, but in the end it simply wasn’t going to fly. Cameron himself said that he would like to reuse the Avatar setting because a digital setting is far easier to reuse than an actual set. “We’re going to spend a lot of money building this world…” Cameron said “… and all these digital characters and digital plants and trees and mountains and so on, and then once we’ve got it, we’ve got it. It’s not like it’s a practical set that when you build it, you have to tear it down and you’re left with a big pile of lumber out behind the studio. We have all that stuff so we can go again.” Now the only problem, is the script, which they don’t have yet, and actually don’t yet have ideas for. “We just have to come up with a great story, which we haven’t done yet.” Cameron continued, “I have a rough story, but you need to make a script, so that might take some time.
