Apparently, James Cameron kept certain scenes in Avatar for no reason other than to segue into a sequel. Specifically, he planned for Avatar to be a two or three film arc when he started. He said that it just makes sense in terms of a business plan. “The CG plants and trees and creatures and the musculo-skeletal rigging of the main characters — that all takes an enormous amount of time to create. It’d be a waste not to use it again” says Cameron. [Entertainment Weekly]
