BlazBlue: Continuum Shift — More Goodies

Aside from downloadable characters, Arc System Works has planned for a lot of new stuff to go into their console release of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. These new perks and changes have been scattered between forums and articles all across the net. However, we at 30ninjas have gathered them all and put them in one place for you fighting game fanatics to read.

Price and Release

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift will, in fact, be cheaper than a normal console game. The game will retail for $39.99, and downloadable characters will be $6.99 each. The game will be released on July 1st for Japanese audiences and July 27th for the American market with a European release following this October. The first DLC character package for Makoto will drop on August 5th for all territories. This means that European gamers will be able to purchase Makoto as soon as they get the game. There will be no limited edition for this game so the plain old forty dollar version is all you get.

Region Info

For those of you who absolutely cannot wait for BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, the PS3 version is totally region free. Any PS3 version of the game will play in any PS3 (although there may be as of yet unforeseen issues with region DLC.) The Xbox crowd, unfortunately, is not so lucky. The US version of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift will play on either a US or Asian Xbox, however it will not play on a European or native Japanese Xbox, and the Japanese version won’t run on anything but a Japanese Xbox. In short, lot’s of importing for PS3 owners and none for Xbox owners. All regions will be able to play against each other online.

Language Support and Sound

The US version will have all the text languages available in Calamity Trigger and will have support for English and Japanese voice overs. The Japanese version will only be able to display Japanese text and will only have Japanese voices but will have the ability to hear the opponent’s characters speak in English if they are playing online against an American or European opponent. In addition, there will be a number of “announcer packs” which replace the default BlazBlue announcer with members of the Japanese voice cast. You can download these packs in Japanese or in English, but that will only involve the Japanese cast speaking English, as there will be no alternate announcer packs made for the English voice cast.

New Modes

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift will include all the modes that Calamity Trigger had and then some. Instead of a limited edition DVD, players are now getting a Tutorial and Challenge mode. Tutorial mode will walk you through all of a character’s intricacies including how to do their moves, what properties their moves have, combos, and character specific strategies. Challenge mode will have over 100 character specific challenges that range from unique counters to certain moves to amazingly long entirely situational combos. Legion mode will be the same mode you saw in the PSP version of the game, just changed for consoles. Online mode will be basically the same however, much in the vein of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you can train and practice your combos while you wait for your match to start.

Game Balance

The console release of BlazBlue: Continuum Shift will include balance changes from the arcade version; however, what those changes are has not yet been revealed. Easy Specials have been totally removed from the game and instead have been replaced with the Beginner Mode we saw in the arcades. All characters will have new unlimited versions of themselves that will all be ultra powerful and will break the game in many different ways. Nu-13 will actually come back as the unlimited version of Lambda, except she will not have any special battle voices, nor will she have a story mode.
