Borderlands — The Secret Armory of General Knoxx Review

My only real qualm with Borderlands is that it always felt a little incomplete to me. It was basically Diablo with guns, and while Diablo with guns is pretty awesome in its own right, there is a limit to how much time you can spend leveling up your character and collecting cool gear … or at least that is what I thought. The Borderlands story was admittedly fun, and its two previous DLC expansions did a lot to expand on it, but in the end i still found myself putting down Borderlands for other shooter experiences. Now, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx has come out and I find myself picking up Borderlands again, and not because the story has gotten any deeper, but rather because 2k games has given me yet another chance to level up and collect cool gear. So I was wrong … sue me.

That’s not to say that the plot doesn’t advance at all. In fact General Knoxx basically picks up where the other DLCs left off, with most of your favorite characters returning, along with a new contact, Athena, whose habit of hijacking male enhancement advertisements, helps you out while giving you opportunities to increase your penis size at the same time. There are so many new places to go, with wide new expanses of terrain waiting to be traversed. The expansion is chock full of side-quests, taking a good 8-10 hours to complete, which is great for its price. The game takes even longer to complete if you are a leveling nut, and trust me, with the new stuff they give you, you will probably become a leveling nut.

There are tons of new guns, boss weapons, and other goodies in this expansion. You can now level up to level 61, so go start killing. There are plenty of new enemies, including brand new ones and new variations on old favorites. To help you deal with these enemies, the DLC comes with two new vehicles, including a monster truck and an APC, each with new weapons of their own. Some enemies now drop items that give your character a temporary boost, which help you when you go on your killing sprees, and you’ll be getting all new equipment to boost your damage, DOT, and just about anything else you can think of.

Boss encounters are huge and intimidating in this package, and difficult as well. When you complete the whole thing, you will feel like you have accomplished something, which says a lot considering this may be the last DLC we see from Borderlands for some time. Regardless, if you are a Borderlands fan, this is seriously a no brainer. The expansion improves on the game in just about every way, and it only costs 10 dollars. It’s well worth the price, and frankly, we are all lucky gamers considering 2k didn’t charge us more.
