Breaking News: Bruce Lee Biopic In The Works

Over the years of our action fandom, we have seen people get punched in the face, kneed in the gut, kicked in the groin, and struck so hard their heart explodes, but before we had any of the Beatrix Kiddos or Stephen Segals to perform stunts of martial prowess for us, there was the one, the only, Bruce Lee. It is the 36th year anniversary of Bruce’s tragic death, and in remembrance, his family is working together with J.A. Media to create a three part bio pic all about his life. Variety says that only Tony Leung Ka-fai has been placed in the role of Lee’s father, and no other cast or staff have been decided, however Zhang Yimou has stated before that he would like to shoot a film about Lee’s life, so Yimou fans remain hopeful.

For the record, we here at 30ninjas greatly support this project in every way shape and form. We would love to see a great honor done to the great Bruce Lee with this film. As such, we figured we could contribute by rounding up Bruce Lee’s best fight scenes and letting you watch the kick-ass carnage.

Game of Death

Kareem Abdul Jabbar versus Bruce Lee — what could get better than this? This is one of the best examples of “the bigger they are the harder they fall” on the silver screen. Jabbar looked so lanky but was imposing simply due to his height. In the end of course Bruce Lee prevails, but not after Jabbar proves that he can throw the slowest punches in existence.

Hwang In-Shik

Are you Tang Lung? Yes, yes, for the love of god he is Tang Lung. Now quit it with the nut punching already. This is one of Bruce’s earlier roles and it was damn bad-ass. I’ve never seen so many techniques that revolved around inflicting nut based pain before. If only they didn’t run away, then Lee could have shown the deadly “Palm Castration Technique”.

The Green Hornet

This is why we are so passionate about the upcoming Green Hornet movie adaptation. Bruce Lee practically made this show. We don’t know what Seth Rogen is thinking, and frankly we have no idea who can fill Bruce’s shoes at Kato, but it’s definitely not going to be any old Karate chump. When the villains ask “how will you stop us” all the Green Hornet has to do is look over to Kato, i.e. Bruce Lee and they get scared beyond belief. Then of course Kato whups their ass so hard his hat falls off.

Enter the Dragon

Isn’t it something how Bruce Lee always ends up shirtless, even if his shirt hasn’t really taken any damage? In this scene he just sort of casually takes off his shirt before dealing out some massive ass whupping. Many people say that the fight scenes from Enter the Dragon are the best fight scenes in Martial Arts history. We don’t know if we would go that far, but we definitely would rank them up there with the scenes of other shirtless heroes like Chuck Norris.

The Real One-Inch Punch

Finally we have one of the stunts that made Bruce Lee famous. Lee had his body so tuned that he could punch someone from a fingers length away and still have them feel the full impact. No special effects here. No camera trickery. Just full body mastery.
