Castlevania Movie Project Updates

Today has been a good day for video game movies. First we have the many independent movies that are coming out this week. Then we had more info on the Uncharted movie project. Now, it seems that even Castlevania is getting in on the deal. Yes, the project everyone thought was dead is now alive … or should we say undead … and it has quite the big name creature creator working on it as well.

Many of you may know Aaron Sims from Clash of the Titans, and perhaps the upcoming Green Lantern, but Sims is also the man behind the monsters in Castlevania. Taking his cues from director James Wan, known for his work on Saw, Sims is preparing to get to work, even though the Castlevania project itself is on the back-burner until Wan finishes up his work on Insidious. Sims recently met up with Shock Till You Drop to talk about the Castlevania project, which both he and Wan seem excited about, even though it is still long before it comes to fruition.

“[Castlevania has] been trying to find the right financing for it,” says Sims. “It’s a big film with a giant fan base. They’re not going through a big studio so it’s about finding the right investors. James and I went to Romania and scouted locations.” As for the creatures he worked on, “There’s a Medusa and the vampires themselves had a unique quality to them that falls into James’ style.”

Sims certainly has his share of other projects to work on before he gets to Castlevania. For example, he is currently working on a re-remake of The Planet of the Apes, and another remake of The Invisible Man. So it will be a while before Sims gets to more creature design for the Castlevania film. Until then, he and Wan are both tossing around ideas for the movie itself. Hopefully a few of those ideas will drip down to us, the fans. Also hopefully some of those ideas include casting Patrick Stewart and Robert Carlyle in the film. Hell, if they can voice act in the game they can actually act in the film. You know it’s a good idea Wan. Make it happen.

We will bring you more details on the upcoming Castlevania film project as they become available. Until then, stay tuned for more of our Castlevania coverage as we head up to this year’s E3 convention.
