Dissidia Gets a Sequel?
More awesome news for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show! Square-Enix has decided that they have to make up for denying JRPG fans everywhere their precious Final Fantasy XIII DLC. How will they make it up to us? With a Dissidia sequel!
In the latest issue of Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Jump, we saw the first previews of the new game Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy. That’s a mouthful to say and it doesn’t actually mean anything, but if you look past those two stupid titular errors, you will get to a pretty awesome Final Fantasy fighting game.
The new issue of Jump had very few details about the upcoming game, but what details it had were pleasing. For example, we now know that the game is not limited to main characters. For example, Kain from Final Fantasy IV is confirmed to be a playable character. This opens up the gateway for plenty of other fan favorite characters as well. Perhaps Vincent from Final Fantasy VII or Sabin from Final Fantasy VI? Also, we know that the source material the game is drawing on has been extended, as Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII is a confirmed character too. Of course this means we need a villain from Final Fantasy XIII to join the fray, and we aren’t really sure what villain that could be besides Barthandelus, and how the heck are you going to program him as a playable character? We also might see some characters from Final Fantasy spin-offs, and though they haven’t been confirmed there have been rumors of Kingdom Hearts characters also joining the fray (original characters like Sora and Riku, not Disney characters.)
Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy‘s convenient announcement came right before the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, leading many people to believe that it is going to make an appearance on the show-room floor. With Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep coming out, Square’s presence on the PSP is waning. A new Dissidia title may be just what the company needs to once again drum up profit in the portable world.
We will give you more updates on Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy as they become available as well as coverage of the events of the Tokyo Game Show when it kicks off next week.
