Doug Liman Blog: Running With Jake Gyllenhaal
Hey Ninjas,
So this weekend was the Chilmark Race at Martha’s Vineyard, where I was convinced by Jake Gyllenhaal, who also has a house on the Island, to compete in the front group who compete to do six-minute miles.
To give you an idea of how often I run, I went to an Adidas store to buy sneakers, and the guys started to go down a long questionnaire. And the first question was “How often do you run?” And I said, “Once a year.” And he said, “Yeah, but how often do you run?” And I said, “Once a year; I run this one race on New Year’s Eve every year, and that’s it.” That took us off his clipboard, and he just handed me a pair of sneakers, and if you could see me, I’m limping today.
So in spite of being such a dilettante runner, I was pretty proud at first because I did manage to leave Jake in the dust at the beginning. Apparently, that had less to do with my running powers and more to do with the fact that someone ran into the back of his shoe and he ran right out of it. It actually went flying over us. I like to think of it as me making him eat my dust. But he did catch up and pass me.
No new developments here on the Hudson story, except for Avram “Captain” Ludwig, Elisa Pugliese, and me meeting with Coast Guard officers MST2 Don Raby and LT Joe Johnson, for their investigation into the accident. Sadly, no extra attention from the opposite sex, no calls from the cute girl or any of them for that matter. We did take the boat out on Thursday for a sail into the night to Fire Island, with Captain Ludwig of Hudson fame. We did learn our lesson a little bit the other night and brought along Craig MacNee (one of our 30 Ninjas writers) to help keep watch through the night.
There won’t be much to report on the movie front or the upcoming projects this week. I’m going to try to take a vacation starting tomorrow. Jez Butterworth, the co-writer of Fair Game, flew to New York yesterda,y and I’m meeting with him later to discuss the latest cut. They’re screening the film as writers to help us out; we’re hoping to show it to distributors by the end of this month. More later …
