Doug Liman Blog: Holding With Tradition, I’m Sailing the Hudson After the Covert Affairs Premiere Party
I’m going to a premiere party and screening at the Soho House tonight for Covert Affairs and will be keeping up a tradition that I started on Mr. and Mrs. Smith of going on a nighttime sail after my NYC, summer premieres.
I know I have a reputation (in my own mind) for being Mr. Safety on the Hudson after our rescue last summer but that’s maybe not an entirely accurate portrait of me on the water. The night of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith premiere we went out on the boat and it got very, very late; so late, in fact, that we all fell asleep. I remember waking up, at maybe six in the morning when it was first light, and everybody on deck was asleep, the autopilot was on, the boat was just sailing itself down the Hudson. Down the middle of the river, there’s no one at the wheel, and I’m the only one awake. I’m looking around with not a single person awake and I go back to sleep. The next time I wake up we’re at the dock and people are making pancakes. Somebody obviously eventually woke up and sailed us in.
Piper, who has to look good tomorrow morning, won’t be joining us for the sail but the rest of us, who can look like shit the next morning, will be celebrating on the sailboat.

You’ve probably been asked before…..but…..are you making a sequel to Jumper? Hope so! Thanks
The Hudson is beautiful. I live on it up in the Mechanicville area. I have the Renewable Resource Reality Show needing to be launched. It is amazing you did not wreck on the Hudson. It has to be navigated in the channel. It is interesting to know where you were on auto pilot. It is a sign you have a great purpose to fullfill.
Rick
Love your work…….
