Extreme Pogo

Action junkies have always been a fan of extreme sports. Much like the thrill you get from watching a well made action movie, extreme sports showcase technical skill in dangerous situations to keep us on the edge of our seat. When we think of normal extreme sports we think of skateboarding, biking, rollerblading, heck even snowboarding, but humans are a creative species, and truth be told, as long as it moves, someone somewhere will make it into an extreme sport. The latest childhood toy to undergo this extremification is the Pogo Stick, and stunt videos involving the pogo have been showing up everywhere on the net.

This video showcases much of the basics of pogo stick stunting. The idea is simple, in the middle of each bounce, do something cool, a task that seems easy enough. Flips and spins of the stick are common as are vaults over the top of the stick. This video also features a few stalls on curbs and railings as well. Pogo stick stuns are generally stationary, since the pogo does not move very much forward or back, so you don’t get the same rush you get with say a skateboard or a bmx bike when it comes to speed, but the stunts are every bit as technical.

This video takes it one step further and mixes in some advanced maneuvers. In it you will see people pogoing off of rooftops, vaulting through their own arms, and doing complete 360’s with their legs over the top of the stick. You will notice that in any pogo stunt run a long time is spend simply bouncing in place. This is actually to get the required height needed to start tricking. Without enough height, you wouldn’t have time to change the orientation of the stick before you fell to the ground. Without that balancing time, a face plant is inevitable.

One step further you have the Illinois Pogo crew. They actually take their pogo skills to skate parks and show them off in front of other extreme sport enthusiasts. Here you will see pogoing down stairs, pogoing off ramps, stall transfers, and much much more. You’ll even see altered pogo sticks with extremely long… uhm… sticks… I don’t know what you call those things. Anyway it’s like pogoing on stilts, and they even manage to trick off of that. It’s definitely worth a look.

And of course, whenever there is an extreme sport there is someone with an idea so stupid it’s too much not to video and inevitably embarrass them by posting the video on the internet. This weak embarrassed idiot, some guy who decided to put a treadmill and a pogostick together. Can you guess what happens? I’ll give you a hint… it hurts… a lot.
