Fantastic Four Reboot — Casting Rumors
August 23rd, 2010 Update
On at least ten separate occasions over the course of the past three years I have had debilitating night terrors. I wake up covered in sweat. I shout, I scream, I wail, I cry, it’s truly horrible. I have this reoccurring dream that Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer was released and I went to see it in theaters. In my dream the film has some ridiculously hot chick with dark skin and dark hair playing the fair-skinned blond Sue Storm. There is a Japanese wedding, and horrible lines like, ” Your encounter with the Surfer has affected your molecules. They’re… in a constant state of flux.”
Oh, wait a second, that wasn’t a dream. That was the 2007 cinematic nut shot to my 12-year old self.
Fox may be knees deep in the X-Men: First Class pre-production muck, but that hasn’t stopped them from getting the Fantastic Four reboot ball rolling. Did anyone actually ask for this? Maybe Fox feels the compulsion to compete with Columbia Pictures’ Spider-Man reboot. Maybe they see potential to take the story in a darker direction. Maybe they want to cast an actual blonde as Sue Storm.
Granted this project is only in the rumor stages right now, but that hasn’t stopped the trusty Hollywood rumor mill from churning out tasty celluloid treats for us to gorge ourselves on. The lead roles of Reed Richards and Sue Storm, Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman respectively, have two actors tipped to be the front-runners for each. Adrien Brody and Jonathan Rhys Meyers are both being touted for the sultan of stretch, and Alice Eve and Amber Heard have been linked to the force-field female. These are, of course, just good old-fashioned rumors but with the casting of X-Men: First Class winding down we will need some superhero casting news to slake our mutant thirst.
We will bring you more news on the FF reboot as it becomes available.
