Friday in Action — Super 8, Pirate Sequels, and Space Battleship Yamato
Super 8
Super 8, the next film from Star Trek director J.J. Abrams, has been shrouded in all kinds of mystery. From confusing pics to even more confusing clips, the film seems to be a monster film akin to Cloverfield, a film he produced. The latest leak is this image. I’m usually skeptical when fans leak movie information, but here is what the Abrams super fan had to say regarding the pic:
“So, my friends’ brother’s wife works for a company that does marketing for films, video games, music, etc. Occasionally she’ll get chain mails from these companies which aren’t supposed to go to them. A few days ago she received a chain mail intended for production staff within Paramount.”
I leave the judgment to you, but if evil Pokemon are your thing then I’m sure you’re pretty psyched.

Star Wars Robot Chicken
If you haven’t been following Robot Chicken, you know that show with dolls and puppets and celebrity voices, the show is doing the whole reimagining of Star Wars thing, not unlike what Family Guy did a little while ago. RC has done it so far with 2 episodes that have been solely dedicated to seeing the Star Wars universe through a twisted Robot Chicken Lens. This trailer is hysterical! Take one part Team America, one part Star Wars and add a heaping spoonful of Family Matters and this is what you get.
Pirate Sequels
I know that most of you will be going to see Tron: Legacy when it comes out in two weeks, Dec. 17th, for the sick CGI, the sicker fight scenes, and the sickest motorcycle ever created. But under the radar is the release of the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides trailer that will be premiering during the film’s duration in theater. The rumor right now is that Disney is so excited by the film that they are already planning on shooting the fifth and sixth installments of the franchise back to back. Now for those of you who can still remember the dark ages of the late 2000s, this is exactly what they did with Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End. I have to say that after At World’s End invoked an Episode I level of disappointment in me I thought that the franchise was over. Stranger Tides better be stranger, or at the very least shift the tide of the franchise from lackluster to reinvigorated.

Star Blazers
It may be a Battlestar Galactica ripoff, but after the canceling of Caprica, maybe that’s exactly what we need right now. Watch the first two minutes of Space Battleship Yamato or Star Blazers as it will be known to American audiences and get your BSG fix!
