Gamescom Updates – Part 1 – Shooters
Gamescom is going over in Cologne Germany as we speak. That means that we have enough new game trailers, footage, and news to choke a digitally rendered horse. Games from all genres have been duking it out for floor space and attention, and we will get to them all in due time. Let’s start with a staple of the action crowd, the first person shooter. Shooters were really hot last season, but have since been dethroned by the fighting game genre. Now that the constant stream of new fighters has been slowly down, companies are looking to put their best foot forward in an attempt to make shooters reclaim the action crown. These are just some of the new titles that will be having us pumping our enemies full of bullets in the near future.
Halo 3 ODST
A while back, a friend to the site said “you know what would be cool, if we got to play Halo as one of the random grunts that run around doing Master Chief’s bidding.” No more than a few days after that, Halo 3 ODST was announced. Before you ask, no we don’t know what ODST stands for, but what we do know is that this game will focus on multiplayer co-op squad based gameplay set smack in the middle of the apocalyptic events of Halo 3. This cam video shows us a bit of what co-op is going to be like. In it we get to see a variety of new weapons, as well as much of what the what the squad based gameplay will entail.
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Spoiler spoiler: Solid Snake is a clone. Now that that is out of the way, this is the trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Yes it is for the PSP meaning that all this wonderful firepower will be in the palm of your hand. Nifty eh? Metal Gear Solid has been known to stress stealth gameplay above flat out run and gun shooting bonanzas, but it still counts as a shooter in our book. Now watch this video for hot Snake on Snake action. We are especially excited about Snake’s new love box.
Dead Nation
What’s this? An old school third person shooter with ska surfer music and zombies? Sign us up! Dead Nation seems to once again be riding the co-op train by offering an experience where you mow down hoard after hoard of zombies with a group of friends in classic top down view. The game seems to feature RPG elements along with weapons upgrading and other strategic elements. All this and a kick ass soundtrack to boot! What’s not to love? Not only that, but it’s a downloadable game, so this game will cost a fraction of the price other headliners on the market will cost.
Aliens VS Predator
You know for a game based on a movie, this whole Aliens VS Predator thing looks halfway decent. Fast paced shooting action with a side of horror? We can get behind that. Still, it totally sucks to be a marine in this universe. If the Aliens or the Predator don’t kill you, the cold reaches of space or the paranoia of your own teammates will.
