How Powerful Is the 3DS?
The 3DS has been been the talk of the town in the world of gaming recently. Being that E3 is coming up quickly, we are all interested to see what Nintendo’s next portable can actually do. We do know a little bit about the system. We know it will be backward compatible. We know it will support SD cards and have a camera and a built in Wi-Fi antennae like the DSi. We know that it will still have a touch screen, but we also know that it is capable of 3-D and high resolution imaging. We unfortunately don’t know much about the control scheme, nor do we know a whole lot about the internal specs of the 3DS. However, all that is starting to change.
Check out what we found over at IGN:
How powerful is the 3DS?
Nintendo has not revealed any specs for the 3DS system, but expect it to well surpass the Nintendo DS in visual and processor capabilities. To provide stereoscopic 3D effects the system must have the ability to render each game field twice, one for each of the player’s eyes, a technique that will require significant horsepower to produce.
Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and bring the device with abilities that are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
According to several developer sources, the 3DS device is not using the NVIDIA Tegra mobile chipset, a rumor that’s been floating around since 2009.
So we know for a fact that it isn’t using the NVIDIA Tegra, but instead is using something even more powerful. Gotta tell ya, that’s pretty badass. Who doesn’t want to have a mobile Xbox 360 capable of 3-D imaging in their pocket. Hell, if this is what handhelds will look like next generation, I wonder what consoles will be like.
