January Movie Trailers — Warm Up With Boobs, Violence and Laughs

Not every movie benefits from an endless stream of advertisements injected directly into your eyeballs. Some movies survive merely off of word of mouth and good reputation. Sure, the blockbusters in January look decent enough, but the New Year brings us a bunch of movies that will probably slip under the radar as well. Maybe it is because they simply didn’t have a big enough budget. Maybe it is because they don’t fit snugly into the “action” genre. Maybe it is simply because we have been spending all our time looking at funny YouTube videos rather than looking for the next big movie. Either way, these movies are still worth looking at if you want to spend the first month of the new year at the movies.

Bitch Slap — Releases January 8, 2010

OK, remember Black Dynamite. Remember how it brought back the Blaxploitation film genre? Well, African Americans weren’t the only ones exploited back in the day. There were plenty of films that exploited women too, and Bitch Slap is a throwback to the days of the past when women had big shoes and bigger breasts. Bitch Slap follows a stripper, a drug runner, and a business woman, on a quest to steal diamonds from a crime lord. Then everything goes bat-shit crazy! Starring Julia Voth, Erin Cummings, America Olivo, Michael Hurst, Ron Melendez, William Gregory Lee, Minae Noji , and many pairs of tits, Bitch Slap will either be an amazing testament to the old days of exploitation films, or a poorly masked porno flick. Either way, we win. We spoke to Rick Jacobson, the director, and he claims that he’s created the greatest chick fight in film history. That’s a big claim, we hope he’s right.

Edge of Darkness — Releases January 29, 2010

You know, as much as we all like to make fun of Mel Gibson for — well any number of reasons, really — you have to admit he is a damn good actor, and he makes damn good movies. In this case, Mel plays a homicide detective whose daughter is killed. However, soon he finds out that his daughter wasn’t as innocent as he originally assumed. Soon, he is entangled in a world of government cover-ups, assassinations, and one giant conspiracy that may affect the fate of the world as we know it. People are going to get shot, they are going to die, and it will all be because of Mel Gibson. What more do you want in a thriller?

The Spy Next Door — Releases January 15, 2010

Why is a movie starring Jackie Chan a sleeper hit? Well, it’s a comedy. Then again comedies are what Jackie Chan is known for, so maybe it is simply because this is more of a family comedy. Chan plays a retired super spy who is watching three kids when his arch nemesis tries to take revenge. It’s very Home Alone in nature. Sure, a lot of you are going to end up skipping this, and we can totally understand if the whole family thing just isn’t for you. However, this is yet another movie where Jackie Chan gets to kick someone in the fact, and it will hold us over nicely until the new Karate Kid comes out.
