You know, the big companies that you look up to aren’t always perfect. Take Marvel for instance. They were supposed to post some screenshots of the new characters of Marvel VS Capcom 3 to their website. Unfortunately, they got a little ahead of themselves because they posted screenshots of characters that haven’t been confirmed yet. The two characters in question are Thor and Amaterasu, and let me tell you, the screenshots look awesome.

Most likely, these characters were going to be revealed at Friday’s Marvel Vs Capcom 3 panel, and were supposed to have their screenshots posted shortly thereafter, but someone at Marvel saw fit to give us this little treat a bit early. The images have been taken down at this point (proof positive that someone fucked up) but more than enough sites such as Kotaku, Joystiq, and even us have managed to save these screenshots for posterity. They certainly don’t look fake, here check them out for yourself.

Examine the shots very closely. The first thing you might notice is that Amaterasu has different weapons equipped in different shots. Perhaps this means she has some sort of weapon switching system like Mega Man Volnutt had in Tatsunoko VS Capcom? Neither of the screenshots show her equipping the disc that she has in her character art. She also appears to have full access to her celestial brush techniques. In one screenshot we can see her swinging on a vine, while another screenshot shows her generating a whirlwhind. We unfortunately can glom even less information from Thor. We know that he has a screen length lightning bolt super but beside that, the only shots we saw were of him standing and taking a Shinkuu Hadoken in the face. Nice capture of Ryu aiming the Hadoken vertically though.

Unfortunately, this does prove one of the leaked character lists wrong. The latest “hacked” character list of file names doesn’t mention Amaterasu anywhere. This also totally negates the first list of characters that was “leaked” because it doesn’t mention Dr. Doom anywhere. If you combine the two lists together, however, they are still spot on. So just for the hell of it, we have combined the two to see how accurate they will eventually be.
