With Charlize Theron canceling her reservation at the last minute, Angelina Jolie is in talks to step into the starring role of Tourist, according to Risky Biz Blog. Produced by Spyglass Entertainment, which scored big with this year’s Star Trek prequel, Tourist tells the tale of an American broad abroad, who is recruited by Interpol to ensnare a former lover believed to be an international crook.

As once-reliable action leads like Bruce Willis prove unable to open a big movie (witness last month’s disappointing Willis vehicle Surrogates), Angelina has become one of Hollywood’s most bankable action stars. Three of the five action films in which she’s starred this decade have earned or will earn more than $100 million, with another bringing in more than $80 million.

Simon Crane, who has choreographed stunts for Angelina on her biggest action films, including the upcoming Salt, told 30 Ninjas that the actress owes her success as an action heroine in large part to her innate feistiness.

“She’s a perfectionist; she wants to get it right, so she will really put in her time with the training, with the rehearsal,” Crane said. “Like with this last film, Salt, we would often rehearse over the weekends with her at a house, in her own time, just to get things right.”

Tourist has lost not only its star but also its director in the past week, and if Angelina indeed signs on as the lead, the production, tentatively scheduled for early next year, could become more difficult even as it becomes more promising.

“Angelina is a great action actress — she really does want to get involved in all the action scenes, from a character standpoint and also for her personally,” Crane noted. “But she can be very opinionated, which is great. Sometimes with her we have big discussions about how it should look, how we could do this, but she really gets into it all.”

With the film’s main players still up in the air, it’s anybody’s guess whether Jolie will push Tourist’s producers to hire Crane. But if Crane does end up designing the actress’s stunts, it’s a fair bet he’ll have her throwing her magnificent body around from vertiginous heights.

“Angelina is fantastic with heights,” Crane said. “Absolutely fantastic, not fazed at all. So you know you can do anything like that with her, and you know she’ll really enjoy it.”
