Pitt Pals Close to Delivering Sherlock Holmes Sequel Already?
Why did Robert Downey Jr. abandon Cowboys and Aliens? Simple! Because he was getting ready to work on Sherlock Holmes 2. Awesome! Despite the mixed reactions this movie had at launch the sequel is already well underway. The sequel hasn’t been officially green-lit yet, however, Kieran and Michele Mulroney are completing the script and the cast is already set to come back sometimes around June. Yep, that’s right, Sherlock Holmes 2 is going to start filming sometime in June. They sure didn’t take their time did they. Let’s hope that there is still enough buzz to make the sequel take off. [Entertainment Weekly]
Don’t forget that hiring Kieran and Michele Mulroney is the strongest indication yet that the studio is pulling out all the stops to get Brad Pitt aboard as Holmes’s maniacal nemesis, Moriarty. Kieran Mulroney is one of Pitt’s closest friends, and this would not be the first time that the star has worked with the Mulroneys on a big-budget action picture. On Mr. & Mrs Smith, Pitt insisted that the producers hire the Mulroneys for a rewrite; it was the husband-and-wife writing team’s first big movie job, and they were paid little more than a bag of Craft Services donuts for their efforts. Maybe all they are waiting for is a yes from Brad before they greenlight? Maybe, but chances are they are waiting to see if the script works as well.
