Real Life Police Takedowns
Remember Cops? That show that was amusing to watch because every so often they would bust someone in his underwear who was getting services from a transvestite prostitute. Yeah, that was kind of nuts. Anyway, police chases are fun to watch, but the chase itself is only the buildup. It’s the police takedown that is the actual climax of the whole scene. In the movies, we see two common scenarios. Either a whole horde of police jumps on one suspect, or one single supercop has a massive gunfight with the perpetrator. In real life, though, things get much, much, much more bizarre.
Suicide by Cop
This is one of the more tragic scenarios police and SWAT teams have to deal with. Suicide by Cop is when one man is so desperate, he puts others in a desperate situation in an attempt to get the police, or in this case the SWAT team, to shoot him. Fortunately, most law enforcement agencies know better than to give in to the demands of someone who is suicidally depressed. Luckily enough, this man did not know how to use a gun, and very quickly jammed his firearm because he didn’t know how to load it properly. A stupid move, but a move that worked out for the best for everyone involved, resulting in no casualties.
Takedown by Cop Car
On the lighter side of things, this guy definitely did not want to commit Suicide by Cop. More to the point, this guy brought a knife to a gunfight … wait … make that a car fight. After crashing into him once, the officers managed to pin him to a pole with the side of their vehicle, something that I assure you wasn’t pleasant for the suspect. A couple cracked ribs later, and this suspect was put into jail, and it’s all thanks to some quick thinking on the part of the police, and a severe lack of armaments on the part of the suspect.
Cameraman’s Lucky Placement
This cameraman was really in the right place at the time. It’s hard to believe that this whole clip wasn’t choreographed by a stunt professional. The perfectly placed camera, the cop car tagging the bumper of the van, which spins into the opposite lane, and the cop pinning the door closed — it looks like a scene from TJ Hooker.
