Repair Site iFixit Now Supports Video Games
A month ago my wiimote broke. Now, a Wiimote is only forty dollars so I bought a new one, but I admit I took the whole thing apart, fiddled with the insides, and hoped I could fix the damn thing because I really didn’t want to spend the extra forty dollars. Well, it appears as if someone got the great idea to pander to cheap do-it-yourselfers like me, and that makes me happy, and ever so slightly cheaper than I was before.
iFixit.com is well known as a reliable info source for people who are looking to open up and repair their iPods, laptops, and mobile phones. Now, they have decided to expand into the world of video games with lots more support than any of us expected. For example, not only do they provide free game repair manuals as well as toolkits, but they also provide free comparisons in terms of cost of repair versus cost of buying new. Long story short, I was still better off buying a new wiimote.
However, it’s not just new video game consoles that iFixit is supporting. Got a busted first generation Game Boy? iFixit can tell you how to fix that. Old NES needs fixing? iFixit has got you covered. Not only that, but they also have detailed instructions on how to modify your electronics as well. Now, I don’t mean modify as in “unlock for pirating.” I mean, iFixit now gives you tutorials on how to create custom controllers that feel exactly like you want them to feel. Want to tighten up the resistance on your analog sticks or triggers, iFixit will tell you how to do it.
Honestly, it’s a great site and you should check it out, before a bunch of people start screwing up their own repairs and give the site a bad name.
