Rumored Marvel VS Capcom 3 Character List Leak?

The fighting game community is no stranger to leaks. The entire roster for Super Street Fighter IV was leaked far before Capcom ever announced it. The extra characters from Tatsunoko VS Capcom were revealed before their first official trailers ever hit the internet. Even now the new DLC characters for Blazblue: Continuum Shift have been revealed before Arc System Works has even finished them, and the list goes on. So it’s pretty normal for fans to be searching high and low for any sign of leaks when a new fighting game is announced, and now Marvel VS Capcom 3 has its turn to be under the microscope.

So here is the story. Apparently, a hacker was able to pull the entire roster of Marvel VS Capcom 3 off of Capcom’s own website. Supposedly, Capcom was updating its flash, and this one particular nameless hacker was able to pull a series of file names and directories that looked suspiciously like a character list from Capcom’s database. Originally, it was said that this hacker came from the forums over at NeoGAF, but it was later revealed that the post originated at Gamefaqs.com. However, the roster for Super Smash Brothers Brawl was originally leaked on Gamefaqs, so don’t let this sway your view on its credibility too much.

What hurts credibility the most is that this character list comes in two distinct flavors. The first list was revealed far before the E3 demo was built and was apparently based on both hacking and the silhouettes that we all saw in the Marvel VS Capcom 3 trailers and posters. The second and latest list, which this particular rumor talks about, matches up with the aforementioned list in some areas but deviates pretty significantly when it comes to a few characters. Both lists are particularly goofy, but then again no one ever thought R.O.B. was going to be a playable character in Brawl.

As you can see the two lists don’t actually match up. So are either of these lists true? Personally, I don’t think so. The stories behind each list are hard to prove at best and blatant trolling at worst. There is a slim chance that one of these rosters may be the real deal, but all I can say is I hope not. There are no Street Fighter III or IV characters, no Psylocke or Sentinel, and there are some really weird choices included like Trish and Wesker and the Super Skrull. I have to give my major approval for the additions of Dr. Strange and Mayor Mike Haggar though.
