Scott Pilgrim Ends, Fans Celebrate With More Scott Pilgrim

If you are a fan of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim, the indie comic book series that is quickly winning over fans everywhere, then today was simultaneously an awesome and depressing day. Unfortunately, the series is over and the chronicles of Scott Pilgrim in his video game-themed world have come to an end. On the upside, volume six, which most of you have been waiting for for about a year now, has finally hit store shelves, and let me tell you it is amazing. You get a deep look into Scott and Ramona’ psyche, you get to see what is probably the most epic fight to transpire in a love story, and, at the risk of some spoiler action here, one of the characters you have known for a long time is gay … and I mean, one who wasn’t gay before … not Wallace.

Of course, there is still plenty of Scott Pilgrim to go around. Even if you have read the entirety of the comic book series, the movie actually splits off into a new plotline around the end. About 40% of volume six is supposedly in the upcoming movie, but from there the two progress in two completely different directions . Perhaps, since we know this ahead of time, we won’t be angry when the movie doesn’t follow the comic book canon. Or perhaps we will be just as pissed, who knows? Either way, there are going to be more details about the movie, which hits theaters on August 13th, at the San Diego Comic Con, so keep your eyes peeled and your guitar’s tuned.

Speaking of Comic Con, the geek-fest continues to be the place to go to for new video game announcements, and when it comes to Scott Pilgrim that rule still applies. Ubisoft has recently released a new trailer for their upcoming downloadable title, Scott Pilgrim VS The World. Apparently, the game is pretty much complete and should be at Comic Con in full playable format. If you are going to be there, then seriously check out this game. It was one of the best games I played at E3, and the complete version just seems that much cooler. Hell, the game even has zombies! We all know you like zombies!

It appears as if the end of Scott Pilgrim is just the beginning for the franchise. With a powerful fanbase of mega-nerds (like us), Scott Pilgrim looks as if it’s going to go far beyond its original comic book medium. At least, that is, until Bryan Lee O’Malley clues us in on his next project. More Comic Con tidbits to look forward to perhaps?
