Shattered Union From Game to Movie
Jerry Bruckheimer and J. Michael Straczynski (Ninja Assassin, Silver Surfer) will be adapting 2k Games’ Shattered Union into a feature film for Disney. The game was a tactical strategy game whose story revolves around the US going through a second civil war. It is an interesting plot, but the big question is “Why Shattered Union?” It wasn’t a popular game, and very few gamers actually know what it is. What sort of fan base is Disney trying to pull in with this adaptation, and why would they attach such big names to it? Seems like a whole lot of effort for a sleeper that never really got time in the spotlight. Shattered Union gets Jerry Bruckheimer, but Final Fantasy gets that crap hole that was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. There is no justice in this world. [Variety]

Perhaps they weren’t trying to draw a fan base in and just wanted the concept and some of the details free and clear? They probably didn’t have to pay much and the developers are long gone.
