Super Street Fighter IV Confirmed for Arcade Release

Ahh . . . Capcom is such a big liar. For the longest time they have told us that we wouldn’t be getting an Arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV. Sure, producer Yoshinori Ono said he would really like to see Super Street Fighter IV come to the arcades, but arcades were apparently not popular enough. He gave us all sorts of economic reasons for why we wouldn’t see Super Street Fighter IV come to coin-op cabinets across the world, and while it was a sad announcement, we all accepted that we would just have to go out and buy PS3 or Xbox fight sticks for the classic arcade experience.

This all turned out to not be true, so whatever. Ono himself confirmed the upcoming Super Street Fighter IV arcade release in a recent tournament. Plainly put, he announced at the winner’s ceremony that Super Street Fighter IV will be coming to arcades. The release will be limited to Japan only, however, some arcades in America are already planning on importing the machine. Arcade Infinity, known for its popular tournaments, internet streams, and colorful commentary, has said that the machine is due for a July/August release, a few months after the USA release of the console version.

Representatives of Capcom USA have also confirmed the arcade unit’s inevitable release, meaning that the long stream of rumors involving characters, gameplay mechanics, and a full arcade version, has finally come true, even here in the states. Kotaku managed to speak with Capcom USA’s Seth Killian to get some dirt on the upcoming arcade release. His response was, “We knew players wanted it, and while it took us a while to make it happen, the time has come for arcade fans around the world to collectively high-five and get ready to join the Super SFIV party.”

So in short, Capcom was trying to get an arcade release to happen for a while. Considering that it will be dropping only a few months after the console release, we think it is safe to say that Capcom had this planned. Now we get the arcade release with a ton of hype behind it, which is just what Capcom wanted. Now we can all look forward to more interesting Arcade Infinity Street Fighter streams.

The final question is whether or not the arcade version will have all the rumored bonus features that popped up on forums a few months ago. Will the arcade version actually have the full Super Street Fighter IV roster of characters? Will we be able to select Seth or Gouken this time around in the arcade? Will the cabinet require character unlocking with time? Will the “beat up a car” or “break barrels” bonus stages be included? Only time will tell.

We will give you more info about the upcoming arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV when it becomes available.
