The Beautiful Carnage of Runaway Trains
Each flaming hunk of crushed metal and shattered glass on 30 Ninjas has given way to an even larger hunk of crushed metal and shattered glass, until finally we had to say to ourselves: “OK, let’s think bigger, louder, more dangerous!”
Trains! Yeah, that’s it, trains. Trains are bigger, louder, and more dangerous than any of our car pileups or motorcycle crashes. Plus, they’re sometimes filled with combustible materials! Bonus!
So without further ado, here are some of the world’s best train crashes!
Please Crash My Car
These cars weren’t stopped at the crossroads for any reason other than that people really wanted to see them get hit by trains. Either that, or it was some sort of bizarre stress test for the train or car. Still it’s quite amusing to watch, especially when the vehicles light on fire, like the SUV that was hit.
Tossing Cars As If They Were Chew Toys
Real train accidents look a little bit different, a little more like this. You can see how the impact basically destroys any vehicle that gets in the train’s way. From cars to full-blown trucks, these trains toss heavy vehicles around like they were a dog’s chew toy. Also, bigger impact means sparks, and sparks mean explosion — one that’s so big it actually creates a miniature mushroom cloud! You rarely get to see explosions this big that aren’t staged by a special effects team, and that is what makes this video such a treat, even if YouTube is being uptight about where we post it.
Train crashes aren’t just used for entertainment value. In fact, much like car crashes, controlled train crashes are useful in scientific disciplines. In this video, a 240-ton train is rammed right into a nuclear container, and the container doesn’t even crack! You can actually see hunks of metal and shrapnel from the train fly into the air on impact in a glorious fireball as the train basically crumbles under its own weight and momentum.
Slower Than a Speeding Train
No matter how many of these train crash videos we unearth and post, some people simply don’t seem to grasp that they can’t outrun a train at the train crossing. This truck actually waits several seconds before making his attempt to cross, just to be sure that the train gets close enough to do maximum damage. The train hits the flatbed, which whips the truck around like a rag doll and totally demolishes everything but the driver, who is lucky to be out of range of the collision.
And finally, we have the climactic moment of our train-crashing survey, trains crashing into other trains. This was filmed from a camera attached to the front of a train so the camera goes off quickly after the collision, but if you look closely you can see people jumping out in fear. So check it out and … wait, what?

Now, that is funny. This train wreck was so hardcore that YouTube had to take down the video, because the train company itself was afraid of the negative press it was going to get. Awesome.
