Dune: The Spice Melange

Effects: Longer Life Span, Greater Vitality, Heightened Awareness, Can Unlock Prescience in Humans, Secret to Space Travel

Side Effects: Addictive, Withdrawal is Fatal, Bluer Than Blue Eyes, Potential Deformities

The Spice is only found on one planet in the entire universe, yet it is the sole conduit through which space travel is possible. Interestingly enough, consuming enough spice to achieve Navigator abilities comes at the price of looking like a giant vagina (at least according to David Lynch).

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: Felix Felicis

Effects: Luck. Success 100% Guaranteed.

Side Effects: Giddiness, Recklessness, Dangerous Overconfidence, Highly Toxic in Large Quantities

The best part about Felix Felicis is that is seems to work just as well in placebo form as it does in actuality. Harry tricks Ron and Hermione into thinking that he has”reverse poisoned” Ron’s Pumpkin Juice pre-Quidditch match. The result is Ron playing a perfect game at Keeper and locking down his first girlfriend. Player please!

Limitless: NZT-48

Effects: Euphoria, Significantly Increased Memory, Increased Intelligence, Reduced Need for Sleep, Enahanced Strength, Speed, and Focus,

Side Effects: Paralysis, Psychosis, Amnesia, Extreme Sexual Appetite, Brain Damage, Irreversible Coma, Homicidal Blackouts, and Sudden Death

NZT is dream of all pharmaceutical companies. Harnessing all of your innate potential simply by popping a pill. Who actually cares about any of these side-effects if you have the power to outwit everyone of your peers. I pose the following question to you: how many years of your life would you be willing to sacrifice if you had an unlimited supply of NZT?

Dragon Ball: Senzu Bean

Effects: Immense Rejuvenating Properties

Side Effects: Potential Weight Gain (only if improper dose is consumed)

Apart from entire episodes of screaming and powering up, one of my biggest problems with the Dragon Ball series was their use of Senzu Beans. Why wouldn’t they use senzu beans in all of their training? Train as hard as you can, deplete all of your energy to the point of death and then take a senzu bean. Rinse and repeat. Seems like a pretty easy way to achieve Super Saiyin power levels.

X-Men: Mutant Growth Hormone

Effects: Temporary Mutant Powers (Humans), Enhanced Mutant Powers (Mutants)

Side Effects: Strain on the Body, Addictive

Ever wonder how Hank McCoy, AKA Beast, went from this to this? Mutant Growth Hormone! While it enhances the power of mutants, it also has the power to temporarily give humans mutant abilities. Dibs on Phoenix!
