The Monster Squad Is Back!
Shane Black is best known for his late 80′s, early 90′s buddy-comedy action scripts. The Lethal Weapon scribe became famous for his witty banter and exorbitant paychecks in the early 90′s with the Weapon series and films like The Last Boy Scout and The Long Kiss Goodnight. What many people don’t know is that Black also wrote the script for one of the most beloved camp films of the 80′s, The Monster Squad.
The story was about two kids obsessed with old school monster and horror films. They start a club devoted to the monsters, but things start to get strange when Dracula moves in next door and he has brought his pals, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolfman and the Mummy along for the ride. It’s up to the two suburban youths, the Monster Squad, to prevent the infamous terrors from taking over the world. If this sounds amazing than get ready to relive all of its 80′s horror film camp because Paramount Pictures has decided that it wants to remake the film. With all of the success of the Twilight films and a recent remake of The Wolfman, a re-envisioning of The Monster Squad was really only the next logical step. And apparently Michael Bay is behind this production so prepare to see some some cool monsters casually walking away from explosions. [deadline.com]
