Three New Super Street Fighter IV Characters Confirmed

A while back, someone with “insider info” said that they had the skinny on all the new characters of Super Street Fighter IV. Eventually a list consisting of Dee Jay, T. Hawk, Dudley, Ibuki, Makoto, Adon, Cody and Guy was circulating around the internet at a fast past. Of course, these rumors were met with skepticism, but one by one they slowly started to be confirmed. Dee Jay and T.Hawk were the first to be revealed, but they were part of the old school roster and it seemed as if it was only natural that they would be in this new interaction. Then Adon, Cody, and Guy were all confirmed, which was a little further out there considering they were primarily part of the Street Fighter: Alpha cast. I don’t think anyone really believed we were going to see Dudley, Ibuki, and Makoto enter the cast. Not only did we already have one boxer (Balrog) which made Dudley slightly redundant, but the inclusions of these characters does funky things with the Street Fighter time line.

Sure enough, though, Famitsu has revealed that Dudley, Ibuki, and Makoto will in fact be joining the Street Fighter IV cast, with all of their Street Fighter III moves intact, and some new ones to boot. In Street Fighter III, the system allowed you to choose between three “super arts” in each fight. In Super Street Fighter IV, one of each of these super arts will translate over into a super combo, while the other two will be selectable ultra combos.

Originally, it was announced that “roughly eight” new characters would be joining the Super Street Fighter IV roster, however these new additions bring the roster up to nine along with the brand new character Juri. Another popular rumor is the existence of one more original character, named Hakan. He would be the series’ first Arabic character and would fight in a grappling style. Hakan has not been confirmed, and many fans still believe him to be a hoax, however, with the inclusion of these Street Fighter III characters, Hakan’s chance of joining the roster have become ever greater.

Many fans are hoping that the inclusion of the three Street Fighter III characters means confirmation of many other juicy rumors as well. We have already seen confirmation of the classic returning bonus stages, and selectable ultra-combos. Will we see ultra combos such as Chun-Li’s Kikosho, Sagat’s Tiger Cannon, Gouken’s Denjin Hadouken, and Guile’s Sonic Hurricane? Will we see confirmation of character specific gameplay additions such as Ibuki’s run command, or Cody’s ability to alpha counter. Will the rumor of multi-hitting rock-pape-scissors-esque focus attacks also prove to be true? In fact, the only rumor that has been seriously debunked thusfar is the addition of new fighters to the arcade roster as no Super Street Fighter IV arcade version will be released at all.

Recently, Capcom sent valentine’s presents consisting of a boxing glove holding a rose (reminiscent of Dudley) to different gaming websites, which means they were most likely prepared for the reveal. Be on the lookout for trailers detailing character specific gameplay and ultra-combos in the near future.
