Tommy Lee Jones in Captain America
For weeks it has been rumored that Academy Award winning actor Tommy Lee Jones would be portraying Colonel Chester Phillips in the upcoming film Captain America: The First Avenger. In a very unsurprising turn of events, Marvel has confirmed Jones’ role as Colonel Phillips. In case there are any DC Comics fans reading this, Colonel Phillips is responsible for recruiting Steve Rogers to Project Rebirth, which leads to the Super Solider serum being tested on Rogers, transforming him into Captain America. Sure, this is oddly reminiscent of Jones’ role as Kay in Men In Black, but it’s a role that the guy aces.
Captain America: The First Avenger is due to be released in theaters on July 22, 2011. The film also stars Chris Evans as the titular hero, Hugo Weaving as his arch nemesis, the Red Skull, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, the future director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
