Top Tube Picks — Nip/Tuck: Farewell to Scrumptious Trash
Tomorrow night, when FX airs the final episode of Nip/Tuck I will definitely be watching, and more importantly, waiting for something ludicrous to happen. Because this is what the show did best! It took soap opera narration and injected it with heaping doses of sex, self-loathing, and insanity. Sometimes it was brilliant and cutting edge, and other times it was trashy and ridiculous, but it was always fun. It was a show replete with unbelievable moments at every twist and turn that wasn’t satisfied until you were both equal parts turned on and disgusted. Nip/Tuck addressed almost every taboo subject in American culture: Incest, genital mutilation, sex-dolls, threesomes, foursomes, orgies — believe me, the list goes on. So in honor of a show that changed the landscape of cable television programs, here are some of the most memorable/insane/ridiculous/wtf moments from the show. Revel in the glory of McNamara/Troy!
A Perfect 10
At the beginning of season 1 Christian met Kimber Henry, a young socialite obsessed with achieving the status of “perfect 10.” This scene perfectly encapsulated how Christian preyed upon the insecurities of those around him. For profit, of course. In this case, he slept with Kimber, told her she was 26 not 21, that she was an 8 and not a 10 and then proceeded to make her feel like the hunchback of Notre Dame by pointing out her every flaw with a sharpie. The most amazing/disturbing thing is that Kimber loves him for it.
When You Got to Go
In season 5 Sean started a relationship with a woman who had gastic bypass surgery. Things started off so well, a romantic afternoon in the hot tube, fooling around a little, ooohh what’s that? You have a cramp, don’t worry about it just stay in the hot tu . . . oohhh shit!! Seriously ooohhhh shit!
Virgin Sister
Matt McNamara is the Nip/Tuck punching bag. Like Meg in Family Guy, no one really likes him, looks forward to seeing, or wants anything good to happen to him. So whenever the Nip/Tuck writers think of something twisted and horrible that should happen to a character, that character is usually Matt. We want a character who fails at self circumcision. We want a character who forms a crystal meth/scientology addiction. We need someone to sleep with his half-sister . . . obviously!
Transexual Transgression
Another clip in the realm of Matt McNamara punching bag. Matt takes a girl back from a club only to find out that the she is actually a he, in drag. He beats the shit out of him and begins to date a girl, that blond chick from Hairspray, who is a proponent of an aryan nation. So Matt gets chased by a horde of cross-dressers who then in turn beat the bag out of him. This all, of course, leads to Matt and the cross-dresser being tied up by Matt’s girlfriend’s father and threatened with death unless Matt castrates his cross-dressing friend. It all adds up to tons of fun and gender bending.
Breast Reduction?
What’s a girl to do when she wants to get a breast reduction and no doctor will perform the surgery? Here’s the deal, Dina Meyer, the smokeshow from Starship Troopers, plays Roxy St. James, a beautiful woman with a perfect body. Except that her mother and every woman in her family has died from breast cancer and now she wants a mastectomy. But no plastic surgeon, inlcuding Dr Macnamara and Dr. Troy will do it because she does not have breast cancer yet. So Roxy does what any desperate woman in her situation would do, she goes to William Sonoma, purchases an electric turkey carver and gets the job done! Yikes!
