Tuesday in Action — The Confession, Piranaconda, and The Wizard of Id
Brave
Earlier this week Pixar released the first promotional images from their upcoming film Brave. Despite their recent success with the blockbuster sequel Toy Story 3, Pixar may just have their first loser this coming summer in the form of Cars 2. Did anyone really ask for the sequel to a film with a main character named Lightning McQueen? Okay, fine that’s kind of cool. Here’s the official synopsis of Brave which should be hitting movie theaters next summer:
A rugged and mythic Scotland is the setting for Pixar’s action-adventure “The Bear and the Bow.” The impetuous, tangle-haired Merida, though a daughter of royalty, would prefer to make her mark as a great archer. A clash of wills with her mother compels Merida to make a reckless choice, which unleashes unintended peril on her father’s kingdom and her mother’s life. Merida struggles with the unpredictable forces of nature, magic and a dark, ancient curse to set things right.
The Wizards of Id
Here’s the low-down. Back in 1968 The Wizard of Id was a daily comic strip drawn by Johnny Hart. Hart approached a young Jim Henson to do a television pilot for the comic and this is the result. ABC liked the pilot but were hesitant to pick it up for a first season. Henson took his muppets to Sesame Street the following year and the result was one of the most beloved children’s shows of all time.
Piranaconda
I pride myself in keeping tabs of what Roger Corman and the good folks over as Syfy are doing with their latest creature feature program of the month. They have brought us such delicious titles as Sharktopus and Dinocroc VS Supergator and the string of high quality, low quality films just keeps on coming. The latest foray into the realm of fantastic monsters, gloriously horrible SFX and melodramatic soapstars is Piranaconda! Half piranha, half anaconda, all killer!

The Confession
Starring 24‘s Keifer Sutherland and V for Vendetta‘s John Hurt, The Confession is airing solely on Hulu. Click here to check out the show about a hitman (Sutherland clearly stretching for new and unique characters) and a priest. If nothing else this show is treading new ground in the “web only” territory.
