Thor Reviews

Thor may nor be arriving to theaters until next month (May 6th) but the studio started screenings this past weekend (usually a good sign that they are confident with the film that they produced). The reviews thus far are mixed, leaning towards positive, but I think the general feeling is that the film is disappointing because it is so close to being absolutely amazing. Here’s the general consensus:

/Film: I very much enjoyed it, but did not fall in love with it.

Collider: While I do have a few nitpicks, overall I thought Thor was great.

IGN: May not be a game-changer for comic book movies, but it’s solidly entertaining.

Thor‘s magic merged with science high concept may be a little bit fantastic for some moviegoers. Almost every popular superhero film has been rooted in some form of biology and science no matter how ridiculous it may be. It seems to me that the people who will like Thor the most will be those fans that can suspend their disbelief and just go along for the wild ride.

Super 8 in Portal 2

Sites across the web are seeing significant dips in traffic, corresponding to the launch of Portal 2 today.

The trailer for Super 8 features one of the coolest train crashes that one could ever hope for, in fact it’s the one that you were hoping for all along when you watched Unstoppable.

So what do these seemingly amazing yet completely unrelated things have to do with one another. Apparently there is an Easter egg embedded in Portal 2 that will allow you to witness the train crash from Super 8 from a first person perspective. Sometimes cross media adventures can churn out some pretty cool stuff.

Bellflower

We’ve all secretly imagined what it would be like to live through a zombie apocalypse. Whether it be finding the perfect base, stocking up on perfect weapons or just crushing some brain-munchers, the idea isn’t all that unappealing. Well it’s what the main characters in Bellflower love to do. The film premiered at Sundance this year. Here’s the official synopsis:

Bellflower follows two friends as they venture out into the world to begin their adult lives. All their free time is spent building flame-throwers and weapons of mass destruction in hopes that a global apocalypse will occur and clear the runway for their imaginary gang “Mother Medusa”. While waiting for the world to end, their call to excitement comes unexpectedly when one of them meets a charismatic young woman and falls hard in love. Quickly integrated into a new group of friends, they set off on a journey of betrayal, love, hate, infidelity and extreme violence more devastating and fiery than any of their apocalyptic fantasies.
