Two New Confirmed BlazBlue DLC Characters

It’s official! We are now certain to get three premium DLC characters in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. After digging around on the disk a bit, the gaming community at large (specifically one fan Tushar) managed to find oddly named placeholder data. Character data in BlazBlue is differentiated by two character strings, and while MK was obviously referring to Makoto, we found two other placeholders marked VH and PT. Which characters were these referring to? Well, after a bit more internet snooping we managed to find character portraits for the new characters that fit this data (courtesy of another fan Circuitous), and they are Valkenhayn and Platinum the Trinity.

You may remember Valkenhayn Hellsing from BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger‘s story mode. He was the old man that went around serving Rachael as her butler while simultaneously keeping tabs on her and the rest of the BlazBlue cast. It was strongly theorized that Valkenhayn was one of the six heroes of legend, and now BlazBlue: Continuum Shift has confirmed it. Platinum is a new character entering BlazBlue’s story. She is a little girl with three distinct personalities. Luna is a kind young girl, Sena is a snarky and rude young boy, and Platinum, the third personality, is actually the spirit of the sixth legendary hero … oh and they dress as a magical girl … just thought I would let you know that.

No details on the characters’ fighting styles have been released yet, however we do know the names of their drives, courtesy of the BlazBlue wiki. Valkenhayn’s drive is called Lycanthropy while Platina’s drive is called Angelica. No official details on how these drives operate have been released, however the strongest theory with the most evidence points to Platinum’s drive swapping between her different personalities. Though we don’t know how Valkenhayn’s drive operates, his drive’s name along with the name of his character specific theme “Howling Moon” point to him being some sort of werewolf, which just makes him more bad-ass.

Speaking of character themes, even more snooping has revealed each of the new character’s specific themes, which have now all been posted to Youtube. You can listen to them all at the links below.

Mu-12′s theme
Makoto’s Theme
Valkenhayn’s theme
Platina’s Theme

It has also been revealed that each character in BlazBlue will have a set of downloadable palette swaps that make them look like other fighting game characters, mostly Guilty Gear characters. Ragna will have a Sol Badguy skin, Jin will have a Ky Kisuke skin, Litchi will have a Jam skin, the list goes on. In addition, some characters will have skins of other pop culture icons, like Hazama’s Joker skin and Tager’s Iron Man skin.

The only disappointing news is that we did not see any further DLC character placeholders on the disk. Does this mean that our string of DLC will stop at three characters? Most likely. Arc Sys has said there is a possibility for more, but from a technical standpoint I am not sure how they would manage to do that. We will just have to wait to find out.

EDIT: The BlazBlue Wiki has taken down the supposed names for Valkenhayn and Platinum’s drives, and has provided no source for their original posting. Inside info, or just someone posting falsehoods. We will have to wait and see.

EDIT 2: With the release of Continuum Shift, new details have arisen. As far as Platinum the Trinity goes, Sena is the more polite little boy, while Luna is the snarky little girl. According to the BlazBlue Wiki, their Nox Nyctores Arma Reboare Muchourin is not in fact the heart staff, but is instead the bell that they wear around their neck, and it has the ability to alter and generate matter.

Yeah, hi. I’m the “we” that ripped Valkenhayn and Platinum’s art. Do you have any evidence whatsoever regarding these Drive names? Seems stupid to me that the most important part of the article is the only one without even second-hand “I’ve seen it” proof behind it.

Also I’d like to point out that, unless you’re counting rabid fan speculation, there’s no evidence whatsoever for Platinum’s Drive swapping between personalities.

    Hello.

Understand that at no time were we trying to take credit for your work. We only referenced different reports we found on the internet, and personally everyone at 30ninjas would like to thank you for your work in uncovering the DLC files. At no point did we claim to do the hacking ourselves. We have altered the article to give you full credit.

As for the drive names, those were taken off the BlazBlue wiki as stated in the article. At no point did we mention an official Arc System Works confirmation. We apologize if people were taking this as “the most important part of the article” but once again we did not claim this as cold hard fact.

As for what Platinum’s drive does, once again we acknowledge it is a theory and at no point state it as fact. We simply stated it was a stronger theory than others as it is based on plot evidence.

    We apologize for any misunderstanding.

Huh. Sounds cool. I’m going to be getting both these characters as soon as it comes out.

Also I wouldn’t sweat the details. BlazBlue wiki has been right pretty much constantly in the past. I wouldn’t see why they wouldn’t be right about these drive names.

I’m not Tushar, Hellfromabove is Tushar. He found the placeholders, I just ripped them.

No idea where the wiki got their information from.

Luna is the bitchy loli

Sena is the ‘nicer’ boy character

And their drive has nothing to do with their personalities, it has to do with their Nox which allows them to Alter and Create matter. Their personalities will be implemented using other moves, specials and their astral.

By the way, with all the new characters they’re going to create a second wheel around the first one. The original blazblue; CT had an incomplete wheel, CS finishes the first wheel and adds to the other wheels one of the wheels is where mu is and the other 3 characters Valk, Makoto, Platina are starting the second wheel.

Expect to see a quiet a few new characters and surprises in the next blazblue sequel like Jubei, a special someone close to Carl, a special someone close to Litchi, and a few totally new characters to the series.

Good stuff on here, is there a feed?

At times people are layered that way. There’s a thing completely different beneath than what’s on top. Although sometimes, there’s a third, perhaps deeper level, understanding that one is similar to the superior surface one.
