Underworld 4 Gets Delayed
Sorry to tell you Underworld fans … wait a minute, do Underworld fans still exist? Well anyway, sorry to tell you hypothetical Underworld fans but you are going to have to wait before Kate Beckinsale creeps into your perverted vampire fantasies again. You see Underworld 4 has been pushing forward for some time now, but it isn’t pushing forward nearly fast enough. You see, even though Len Wiseman is working his butt off for this movie, Sony’s Screen Gems has decided to push back the release date of this World of Darkness rip off to January 20th, 2012. Many of you may remember that its original date of release was set for September 23rd 2011, so now the team will have 4 extra months to make Kate Beckinsale look even more dead than she already is.
The problem seems to lie in the plot. Screenwriter John Hlavin said, “It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.” So in short, they still aren’t sure where they want to go with this Romeo and Juliet dance between Vampires and Werewolves. I suppose a 4th ending to this age old war is just out of reach to the script writers this time around.
The movie will be filmed in 3-D but Sony has assured us that they are not having problems with the 3-D film process. In fact, Sony has pretty much assured us that the delay is not a result of technical difficulties of any sort. This is all isolated in the creative department, and with good reason. Sony wants to be sure that Underworld 4 satisfies everyone who sees it. Another big flop would be crushing at this point in time, and would most certainly murder the franchise.
