Yet More Marvel VS Capcom 3 Details — Spider Man-Confirmed

Well, I joked around about how Capcom is looking to add a little something called “story” to Marvel VS Capcom 3, but I never thought they would be going this far. Apparently both Marvel and Capcom have been in talks with Udon, the guys behind the Street Fighter series of comics, to create a unique Marvel VS Capcom comic line. Udon hopes that the line will sell well due to the resurgence in popularity of both Marvel and Capcom properties in recent days, more specifically the rebirth of Street Fighter.

Udon did work on Street Fighter II HD Remix, Puzzle Fighter HD, and most recently Tatsunoko VS Capcom. Apparently, they would love a chance to work on Marvel VS Capcom 3 as well. Unfortunately, Capcom and Udon have made it very clear that neither can confirm a comic release at this time, however, dialogues are beginning so let the hype begin!

In addition to awesome comic book news, we also got some new news about Marvel VS Capcom 3’s backgrounds of all things. Many of you may remember that the backgrounds for Marvel VS Capcom 2 were … weird, the most memorable being an inexplicable clown face. However, this is not the case for Marvel VS Capcom 3. Backgrounds and environments will come straight out of both the Marvel and Capcom universes. It will take a style similar to Tatsunoko VS Capcom, with stages representative of the roster of characters. Music, will be developed in a similar style to the Japanese release of Tatsunoko VS Capcom. Themes will include character specific anthems, as well as a variety of original and remixed music from versus games past.

The Marvel side of the Marvel VS Capcom universe will not actually be any particular canonical Marvel universe. Aspects will be taken from all Marvel continuities including both Ultimate and Marvel Proper or “616” universes. There will be plenty of fan nods, but the story of the Marvel characters inside Marvel VS Capcom will be isolated to the game, and the possible Udon comic series only. Character models will be based on positive fan response. For example, Wolverine is clad in his traditional blue and yellow X-Men get up, however Iron Man has a model that more accurately resembles the Iron Man movies. The Hulk is another story all together, sporting a totally original character model with long ripped jeans and shorter hair made specifically for the anime-styled Marvel VS Capcom universe.

As a final treat, there is one more character confirmation for you. In an interview with Kotaku, Chris Baker, Marvel Studio’s manager of licensed games, has confirmed that Spider-Man will be a member of the playable cast of characters. He goes on to say that the Spidey from the game will be very reminiscent of the classic Spidey from the comics. This probably isn’t a big surprise to all of you, but at least it is official now.

We will bring you more Marvel VS. Capcom 3 details as they are released.

Spider-Man is not confirmed; if you go to the interview, Chris Baker only says that the characters will retain their classic looks; it’s the interviewer who puts Spidey in the equation.

Ok im at a 50/50 stance. i believe Spider-Man will be in the game. HE IS Marvel Comics Flagship character. Im all for Venom and Maybe even Carnage to show in Marvel VS Capcom 3 BUT what we know about some of these characters in the videogame is that they will mostly retain thier 90s classic outfits.

My question here is, is this Spider-Man going to be the Spider-Man from the 90s comicbooks, with details like being a photojournalist, married to Mary Jane, living with his wife in thier apartment. The games Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter seem to reiterate that this is the actual version of Spider-Man we should be seeing in the continuity of the VS SERIES.

Id rather see the version of Spider-Man almost (I REPEAT! ALMOST) becoming a father with a preganant Mary Jane Parker, than the current pathetic Spider-Man in the modern comics. I dont even read those because of how his character has currently been destroyed.

My Statement kinda has a point or two because i just wanna say. For any Ben Riley fans out there like myself, why not try and petition to have him IN Marvel VS Capcom 3, since the portray of these characters are meant to represent their 90s VS videogames classic Source Material

nick
