Yun, Yang, and Six New Characters Coming to Super Street Fighter IV

A while back we got the first screen shots of the new Super Street Fighter IV arcade test, and we saw something pretty interesting. On the character select screen there were two new blanked out spots that pretty much served as a dead giveaway that new characters would be coming (possible DLC characters for the console version). If you asked anyone about who these new characters would be, all you would get is rumor and speculation. But, now we have something more! We have slightly more informed rumor and speculation. Well, it’s something … right?

In a recent issue of Arcadia which spoke about the upcoming arcade release, we got an article that prominently featured a silhouette of a skateboard and roller skates. Fans of Street Fighter III might associate these with the characters Yun and Yang, who had been rumored for inclusion in Super Street Fighter IV for a while now. Both characters made cameos in the original Street Fighter IV and in Super Street Fighter IV’s console release. Both characters would also be a relatively simple conversion to the systems of Super Street Fighter IV, being that they were both primarily physical fighters, and their combos would fit well into the Street Fighter IV combo system with a few tweeks. Who these new “mystery” characters actually are will be revealed at the next Tokyo Game Show.

Schrödinger’s Yun and Yang are happy enough news, but believe it or not, Capcom isn’t going to stop there. At least, there are rumors that Capcom isn’t going to stop. Though these two new characters are all but confirmed at this point, there is talk (via Henry Cen and AlphaISM radio) that Capcom will actually be including six new characters for the upcoming arcade release of Super Street Fighter IV. There is certainly enough room on the character select screen, and Capcom has said before that they will have no problem adding downloadable characters to the console release. All we need to do is wait until the Tokyo Game Show to find out. We will probably hear more about these characters before we hear anything more about Street Fighter VS Tekken.

(Update Eventhubs.com: A recently revealed image of Street Fighter VS Tekken shows Chun-Li as a playable character, not just an assist. We can probably safely assume the same about Nina Williams. )
