Now playing: The Horseman — A Bloody Rampage of a Film
While you may not have heard of The Horseman, a small Australian film by first time director Steven Kastrissios, it should definitely be on your radar. The Horseman was a big hit at the SXSW film festival and won Best Film and Best Director at the Melbourne Underground Film Festival.
The Horseman is what Edge of Darkness wanted to be, before being diluted by Mel Gibson’s type-casting. Seriously, how many films has the guy been in where his son or daughter dies and he is on a bloody rampage of revenge? By my count it’s too many. The Horseman is the tale of a white-collared Australian businessman who discovers, through a disturbing video, that his daughter has been killed after descending into the seamy underbelly of the Australian drug and porn scene. He is none too pleased about this and decides to exact gory and and sanguine vengeance. Did someone say road trip?! After befriending a girl who is oddly reminiscent of his daughter, he sets on his killing spree and gets his Mad Max on.
The Horseman just came out on DVD in the US and it would be wise to pick up a copy if fury-inspired revenge is your thing.
